Author Tuesdays: Certificate of Copyright

It has been over a year in coming but I finally received my official copyright for my very first published novel: Ataxia and the Ravine of Lost Dreams.

Should you spend the time and money and anxiety waiting on an official copyright? You own your work as soon as you set the words to the page, so you don't have to worry about your work being copy written. One of the only reasons you may want to apply for and pay for an official copyright from the government is if you think down the road that copyright infringement of your work will result in actual money losses. If you have filed for copyright within three months of publication then if that scenario happens you are not responsible for any legal costs should you win the case (and if you are the author you're going to win the case, right?).
